The upper McKenzie River is renown for crystal clear water, beautiful scenery and incredible trout fly fishing, making it one of Oregon’s true gems. This section of river has an abundant population of both hatchery and wild trout. Trout range 10-18 inches with larger 20’’ native red sides possible.
The Upper McKenzie provides a diversity of unique types of water. Throughout our day we will experience large pools, swift riffles, and glassy tail-outs. Every stretch requires certain methods and techniques adapted to the conditions. From dry fly to nymph we will target these beautiful fish based on your preference while improving skills along the way.

Eugene is fortunate to have a healthy run of Summer Steelhead in both the Willamette and McKenzie River from June - December. Steelhead average 8-12lbs and are aggressive fish. Catching one on a swung fly is an exhilarating experience. Steelhead enter our rivers in early May and is most productive in September - November.

Fly Fishing Lesson - Single hand or Spey

Either learn the basics of fly casting or improve your skills through a personal lesson. During this lesson we’ll go over the fundamentals of casting and ways to help you cast further and more accurately.

A scenic tour is a great way to experience the river. During this time we make frequent stops to view wildlife, explore areas along the river banks, and/or to have lunch.

Walk-ins are a great way to catch fish within a shorter amount of time from the shore. During a walk-in session you’ll learn a great deal about reading water, improving your cast and discussing what makes an effective presentation.
