The upper portion of the McKenzie River is one of the more beautiful and productive stretches. This section of river holds some of the McKenzie’s most unique and dynamic water, bringing avid fly fisherman to its shores from around the world.

Fish in the river include bull trout, spring chinook, mountain white fish and an abundant population of medium to large rainbow trout - both wild and hatchery.

Watch for a wide variety of wildlife including bald eagles, osprey, mergansers, beavers, otters, dippers and a variety of ducks along the river corridor.

The lower portion of the McKenzie River is another popular location for fishing.

Target fish species include both wild and hatchery rainbow trout and migrating summer steelhead in June - December.

Similar to the upper McKenzie, this river corridor is a beautiful float and has a healthy population of wild animals such as eagles, ospreys, beavers, river otters and much more.

This section of river is best for steelhead below Leaburg dam.
